Things I Overheard a Student Say About Her Boyfriend:

1. I didn’t know he had a criminal record until like 3 months into when we were dating.  Or 2 months.  Or maybe it was a month in.  I don’t remember.
2. It really makes me mad the way he treats me so nice when it’s just him and me but if other people are around he acts like a big jerk.
3. Yeah, it’s been two years now.  We’re on a break right now though because he’s being weird.  He’s worried I’m going to break up with him for real, but I just keep reminding him that I’m not going anywhere.  He’s just such a great guy, you know?

Things I Overheard a Student Say About His Lack of Relationships:

1. Girls are just such a waste of time. But I can’t understand why they don’t want to go out with me.
2. I hate working hard at relationships. I mean, why can’t girls just be low-maintenance? Like me!
3. My parents keep telling me, just wait until you have kids, and I tell them, “Oh, yeah? Well, give me nine months and we’ll just see about that.” Except it’s kind of hard with not having a girlfriend.

And they wonder why there aren’t more long-married couples who were high school sweethearts. Hmm…
